National Gardens Scheme
Piecemeal,
the nursery owner’s tiny, private walled garden, just 3 miles from
Whatton House, is usually open to the public at least once a year under
the National Gardens Scheme. See www.ngs.org.uk for further details and
images. This year, it will be open on Sunday 18 August from 12 noon to
5 pm. Admission is £3 per person. Accompanied children free. For
a small additional charge to the NGS, tea and biscuits can be provided.
The garden will also be open by arrangement in 2019. Groups
of between 4 and 10 are welcome on a mutually convenient date. It is possible
to accommodate larger groups but please
contact me at the nursery to discuss. Plants from the nursery will
be available for sale and a percentage of any takings donated to the National
Gardens Scheme for the charities the Scheme supports, which include the
following:
- The Queen’s Nursing Institute
- Macmillan Cancer Support
- Marie Curie
- Hospice UK
- Carers Trust
- MS Society
- Parkinson’s UK
- Perennial
- Leonard Cheshire
- Horatio’s Garden
- Maggies
The 15 acres of family gardens at Whatton House, where the
nursery is based, are also open annually for the National Gardens Scheme,
this year on Sunday 19 May from 11.00am to 5.00pm. Admission £4.00,
accompanied children free. The nursery will be open and plants will be
for sale, again with a percentage donated to the NGS. See the Whatton
Gardens website - www.whattonhouseandgardens.co.uk
- for images and details of regular openings.
